Green belt

Almost half of Greater Manchester is designated as Green Belt land (46.7% or 59,560 hectares). There is wide variation between local authorities though. Rochdale has the largest percentage of Green Belt land (62.8%, 9,930 hectares) and Manchester the lowest (11.1%, 1,280 hectares). Trafford sits at the bottom end with 37.6% of the land area designated as Green Belt.
