Trafford's population in 2023 was 2% less than projected from 2018

The ONS mid-2023 population estimate for Trafford was 237,480, which is 4,903 (2%) fewer than the projected population for 2023 based on the 2018 estimate.

The population pyramid below shows differences in estimated and projected population by age bands and sex. Some age groups have fewer people, while others have more.

For females, the larger differences were for the girls under-5 with 529 (7.9%) less, women aged 50 to 64 (50 to 54 with 354 (4.1%) less, 55 to 59 with 529 (6.2%) less, and 60 to 64 with 285 (3.9%) less), and older women 85+ with 275 (6.7%) less. However, there were also 722 (16.4%) more women aged 20 to 24.

For males, the larger differences were in men aged 30 to 34 with 646 (8.6%) less, boys under-5 with 508 (7.1%) less, and teenagers aged 15 to 19 with 311 (4.1%) less. Similarly to females, there were also 641 (13.4%) more males aged 20 to 24.

Overall, the larger differences were in the under-5 age band with 1,038 (7.5%) less and the 30 to 34 age band with 909 (5.9%) less. The 20 to 24 age band had 1,363 (14.8%) more population than projected.
